Everyone’s experiences are like a book which includes numerous different chapters. Some may share similar experiences in every chapter while others only in just a few.
Although my dad had mental health issues, he was also a very smart business man. During his normal state of mind, he ran multiple businesses productively and he was very functional. Although a bit too much for my liking, he was charming and the ladies loved him.
One chapter of my father’s life was particularly difficult while he was going through periodic periods of mania. His depression amplified and he neglected his home and family again.
None of these episodes were ever pleasant. I was always the bad guy because I made the decisions to clean up his home, only to come back a few days later to find total disarray.
With that said, during his normal peak, he started dating someone, but she had no idea he would become depressed. Well, sure enough, he slowly started to keep a messy home again and didn’t want to continue the relationship with her. After she called me, I explained his medical condition and shared what was going on. She didn’t run which was great so we cared for him together. It was a nice feeling to know that she cared enough to share our challenges regarding my dad together.
Although I felt bad for her because it’s a lot to handle, I felt relieved not having to deal with him alone. He was a handful.
During this experience I learned that although they eventually broke-up, there are good people in the world who are ready to help. Even though they may not be in every chapter of your life, they were placed there to learn from.
My dad got through that episode because of a caring lovely lady. God bless her heart. I believed she also passed away.
The world is filled with good people, believe only that and good people will come to you. Never doubt love conquers all. Love moves the world.
